IT’S All About THE ARTISTRY
This is not another “I loved watching my mum do her make-up when I was a child” story.
My real curiosity for the art of make-up was ignited in 1983, when I stayed up until midnight to watch the TV launch of Michael Jackson’s epic, 13 minute video ‘Thriller’. I was totally transfixed, seeing how Michael was transformed from innocent teen to zombie to werewolf. (I watched it over and over until the video tape snapped)!
Rick Baker, the legendary artist who created those characters, was the first of many talented creatives that I began to study, opening up a world of imagination, inspiration and craft I never knew existed. Discovering that a professional career in transforming the world’s most beautiful and famous faces was a realistic possibility was both mind-blowing and motivating to me.
At college and university I adored my training as a hairdresser and make-up artist, and after many years of developing my skills working in photography, television and film, I also gained a degree to teach them.
I feel privileged that my career has enabled me to work with and meet so many wonderful people. Now as a make-up mentor; agent; educator and designer; my aim is to share my skills and knowledge with the next generation of artists.
I manage the MU-Agency, who are a growing team of talented and dedicated UK based make-up artists and hair stylists that work regularly in TV/media. Our studio is based in Media City, where we run MU-Academy workshops for other artists and skill sharing sessions to maintain our craft and understanding of new techniques, trends and thinking in our field.
